The Last Light of Autumn, Canyon de Chelly | December 3, 2021

Description
At sunrise, the desert holds its own kind of warmth. Standing at the edge of Canyon de Chelly, I looked down and saw a lone cottonwood, its golden leaves catching the morning light. The cold air bit at my skin, but the sight of it, rooted, glowing, alive, felt like a quiet fire against the earth. The Apache saw the cottonwood as a symbol of the sun. That morning, I understood why.
